Nollywood Veteran Of The Week: Pete Edochie

This week, our Veteran actor of the week the Legendary Pete Edochie, born on 7th March 1947 in Enugu State. He completed his Primary and Secondary education in Zaria, Kaduna State. He did a course in Journalism and Television in School of Journalism and Television, before joining his father in the Nigerian Railway Corporation. By mid 1960s, he proceeded to England to further his education. He joined the Eastern Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation as a junior programme assistant and rose through the ranks to become a Director, and he retired as a broadcaster in 1988. He came to limelight in the 1980s after playing a lead role, Okonkwo in a screen adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart. As a result, BBC came to Nigeria to interview him, and he also got some international recognition.

He has featured in hundreds of movies and has been awarded both locally and internationally. He is regarded as one of Africa’s greatest actors and was honored as Member of the Order of the Niger in 2003 by Olusegun Obasanjo.

As an actor, He is very skillful in interpreting his scripts, with proverbs and always taking up roles as a rich man or wicked man in movies to pass messages. Here are some of his proverbs you might remember:
