Nollywood Actors to watch out for in 2020

Some actors caught our attention while some are quickly gathering momentum. A Nigerian proverb says “Everything na turn by turn”.

In that vein, we have put together a list of Nollywood actors to watch out for in 2020. These actors delivered impressive performances in 2019, and could well be on their way to getting their much-deserved recognition in 2020.

This list is based on how much buzz there is around their future projects, but mostly, by how excellent their 2019 was.

Swanky Jka

          For a lot of people, Living in Bondage: Breaking free was their first introduction to Jide Kene Achufusi, aka Swanky JKA. However, after his stellar performance as ‘Nnamdi Okeke’ in the movie, his status went from C-list to A-list. To allude to that, he got signed onto Play Management, the talent management arm of Play Network. Play Network were co-producers on the Living in Bondage 2019 movie. It has also been reported that they have secured the rights to remake Nollywood Classics, Glamour Girls and Rattle Snake. A guarantee that we will see another stellar performance from this young actor. Before his breakout role, Swanky JKA had featured in notable Nollywood movies. They include; “Lionheart” (2018), “The Spirits” (2017), and “Living in Bondage: Breaking Free” (2019). 

Abayomi Alvin

          A fan of MTV Base series, Shuga, and Funke Akindele‚Äôs Jenifa? Then Abayomi Alvin is a familiar face. This young Nollywood actor has shared the screens with a lot of prominent actors in Nollywood. In 2017, he won the Best Actor award from 19teen Rom Awards and the Industry Cynosure from Maya Awards. He has also received nominates as most promising actor, next rated actor between 2017 and 2019. Abayomi Alvin featured in a generous amount of movies in 2019. He is also one of the most sort after young male actors in Nollywood. He edges above his peers in this category because he blends easily into any genre. Comedy, Drama and even action.

Bukola Oladipupo

          Another MTV Shuga star, Bukola is an exceptional and method actor. Adebukola Oladipupo is a made her first acting debut in 2015 with MTV Shuga. She went on to feature in Indigo (season 1), Inevitable and The Other Me the same year. Between 2016/2018, she was featured in Heads Over Heels, Moms at War, and the TV series This Is It. Inspired by Mo Abudu, who made her believe in herself and that women can succeed in the Entertainment/Media Industry against all odds. Bukola’s dream is to integrate Nollywood and Hollywood together to become one unit. Watch out! We have a mogul in the making.

Tomiwa Tegbe

          Tomiwa Tegbe is an actor, known for Kasanova (2019), Kasala! (2018) and MTV Base Shuga (2019). He is growing quite popular with his mischievous roles. Tomiwa says he has always been a movie buff and geek right from childhood. After his first job in 2011 titled Valour by Niyi Akinmolayan, He has since been a part of several productions. This includes; MTV Shuga, My Siblings and I, Kasala, On the Real, To have and to Hold, Ehis Bitters, Growing Old, Aging by the Minutes, Uptight Girl, Kamelita, The Johnsons, How to Marry a Billionaire, Dazzling Mirage, e.t.c. Tomiwa Tegbe is one of the more sort-after young male actors in Nollywood at the moment.

Toni Tones

Toni Tones has been known as a media personality for most of her career. She has been thriving in professions like photography, singing and now acting. Her appearance in the multiple award-winning movie, “King of Boys” proved that she knew more than a thing or two in acting. Toni Tones stole the show as the younger version of the lead character, played by Sola Sobowale. Her ability to mimic Sola’s mannerisms and voice lent credence to the hard work she put in. Her acting prowess and dedication were unveiled for the world to see with King of Boys. We can’t wait to see more of this multi-talented woman on our screens.

Sharon Ooja

One can say 2019 was Sharon Ooja’s year. Following her breakout role as ‘Shalewa” in Ndani TV’s Skinny Girl in Transit, baby girl has been on a roll. This beautiful and stylish actress was featured in almost all the blockbusters of the 2019. Ms. Ooja shows no signs for slowing down in 2020. She stars in Oloture, Bad Comments, Who’s The Boss all scheduled to be released this year. They are also projects of big Nollywood production houses. Sharon Ooja is making money and mileage at the same time.

Bimbo Ademoye

Bimbo Ademoye is slowly becoming a fan favorite. who would not love her? The actress is not only beautifully sexy, but she also scores very high in the talent department. Bimbo Ademoye has a penchant for wearing the hat of any character incredibly well. Her portrayal of a maid who was a pretend wife in ‘Back-Up Wife” got her a well-deserved AMVCA nomination. This secured her a spot on the table of rising stars to watch out for. Her performance in Jade Osiberu’s controversial film, Sugar Rush brought smiles to our faces. We are looking out for more smiles in 2020.
